Before building toilets, attitudes must change. So many schools have toilets which are just really... unapproachable! Viêt Nam Plus helps the schools who have tried the hardest, with a co-financing for better sanitation facilities.

One funder tried to force us to build the toilets and water supply first, before the training program and the active pedagogy classes. We always refused. If there are toilets, they must  be the school's toilets, the children and teachers, the parents toilets! Not the "Viêt Nam Plus toilets"!

Twice a year a committee made of selected tecahers, plus one member of Viêt Nam Plus, chooses a few schools at random. As soon as the schools have been selected, the committee makes a suprise evaluation visit to these schools.

Competition is tough but the real conditions are taken into account: many schools do not have access to water for instance, it is thus much more difficult to keep the school clean. The 3 best schools in each district (out of about 30) receive a reward of 100-200 euros, a co-financing to make toilets, a well, set up a water reservoir, make part of the playground in concrete...
