The environmental footprint of a Khmer or Vietnamese peasant should humble us: about 1, against 10 more an average European. From this point of view they could be considered as model citizens of the planet!

Still no time can be wasted in Cambodia and Vietnam to protect and restore the environment.

In Cambodia, like the ethnic minorities in the Vietnamese mountainous areas, use hardly any chemicals and harvest 3-10 times less than the Viêts in the plains. We do not consider this as optimal, their basic needs are not met!

Cambodia is "modernizing" less quickly than Vietnam, there are less plastic wastes. Fortunately Vietnam imposes heavy 100% taxes on new cars, which are thus fewer than in Cambodia. The price of a motorcycle has fallen though, there are few bicycles left, and it is said there one motorcycle for every 2 Saigonese... not far from 5 million smoky vehicles!
