In Cambodia like in Vietnam, too many trees have been cut, large areas are without, erosion on the hills is visible. In Cambodia it is done by powerful people, above the law, sometimes they come from across the Vietnamese border.
PTEA helps poor villagers to protect "their forest", and to
replant: pilars in concrete to put a clear border, surveillance, alert
systems...
In Vietnam we replant around 75.000 trees every year,
on public lands. We provide the plants and compensation to the planters
for the job. After 6 months we pay a complement of 1 to 10 cents
(depending on the variety), and the same after 1 year, for each
surviving tree. An agreement with the authorities guarantees the local
farmers will have their share at harvest time.
Besides, every year we support the installation of 100-200 biogas systems: eash system saves a small tree every month! With the support of Terre d'Oc the program in Hàm Thuân Nam replants tens of thousands of rattan (it
has almost disappeared) and other precious trees in Dúc Linh (Boi loi
or litsea, and Long Muc or wrightia annamensis): 200% of the quantities for export are replanted. |
