The cashew nuts of Dúc Phú PDF Print E-mail

cajou.jpgFor the last 15 years we have been working with the farmers of Bình Thuân and cashew trees are an important resource in the region. But the farmers are not well paid for their hard work and for the risks incurred. The export price from Vietnam is multiplied by 4 or 5 by the many intermediaries till the ultimate customer in Europe!

The customer pays more than 20 €/kilo, while the farmer receives 2,6 € kilo (after 85% loss in weight is deducted, after drying and processing of the nuts). Thiên Chí has worked with a cooperative of planters, they have been certified as fair trade after many trainings and meetings, and are committed to use only safe  fertilizers and pesticides according to international norms (GAP: the Good Agricultural Practices code), are committed not to allow child labor etc. If they can get a fair price for their nuts, it will be a bonus of 1,5 €/kilo. Thiên Chí spends much energy to now find fair trade clients.
